Who Is Snøfrid?
According to tradition, during a 10th century Jul celebration in the Dovrefjell mountain area, Harald Fairhair (or Finehair, the term referring to beauty rather than hue), fell in love with Snøfrid, the beautiful daughter of Svási, “King of the Sámi.” He married her, and was so enamored that he forsook his kingly duties. This Syttende Mai, we celebrate that love and a millenium of marriage and friendship between the Norwegians and the Indigenous people of Europe.
Harald and Snøfrid will be dancing in the streets (to joik, of course) on Friday, May 17, 2019. Come march with PSS and see for yourself. Contact us for details!
